Couriers of Our Natures

We war against nature.

Given societal support for the unceasing propensity for advancement and profit, the challenge is making art to engage the viewer in what is being lost. All classes of society are consumer and decision maker. Consideration of the global threats to nature, the discussion may obscure the computation of the millions of smaller decisions that comprise those threats. How we live now drives devastation.

As the casualties mount so do the storms, earthquakes, flooding and fires. Tremendous human and wildlife losses should give one pause. Here I paint. The idealized values the United States stamp reference are often in tension with the reality of the changing world. The postage dialogues within these intimate works with the landscape being ravaged. I draw into the works the actual source materials of matches, dirt, grasses, coal dust, oil… The viewer is asked to consider the natural world and its loss.
